How a solo game starts

Pick "Run me through an adventure" and your first scene is a short fight with a ready-made hero, so you learn a turn by playing one.

Build a D&D 5e character, or import one from D&D Beyond or a character sheet PDF, and start a campaign of your own.
The storyteller and the rules engine
Donnie describes where you are and plays every person and monster you meet. Talk your way past a guard or pick a fight with the innkeeper, and Donnie plays out what happens next.
The rules go through an engine. When you swing a sword, the engine rolls the attack against the monster's armor class and rolls the damage, and Donnie gets that result before describing what happened. Hit points, conditions, spell slots, death saves and the turn order are tracked by the engine too.
Every roll shows up on a dice card, and the Fairness Ledger lists the dice the engine rolled, so you can check any result yourself. Fights happen on a battle map with tokens and a turn order bar, and in a dungeon the map stays dark where you have not been and opens up as you explore.
If you fall
Drop to 0 hit points and you make death saving throws, as you would at any table. If you stabilise with nobody on your side still standing, the engine ends the fight. Your enemies leave, and you wake up 1d4 hours later with 1 hit point.
Fail three death saves and your character dies, which ends the adventure.
Questions about playing solo
What can I do for free?
The free Wanderer plan includes 55 AI actions each month, 2 campaigns, 5 scene images, and 1 adventure PDF upload up to 64 pages. An AI action is one request to Donnie, like asking for the next part of the story. No credit card required.
Can I have a party?
Yes. Bot players can join your campaign and take their own turns. They start with the Adventurer plan, which allows up to 2 bot players. On the free plan it is you and Donnie.
Can Donnie read the story aloud?
Yes. Voice narration starts with the Adventurer plan. The free plan is text play.
How far can my character go?
Characters can reach level 12. The engine hands out experience for the monsters you defeat, and you level up when you have enough.
Can friends join later?
Yes. Invite friends to your campaign whenever you like, and Donnie runs the game for the whole group.
Which rules does it use?
D&D 5e, the 2014 rules. If your group plays Pathfinder 2e, you can pick that instead when you create a campaign.
